The first thing you must resolve in your mind is why you are doing what you do…Why networking and what are the benefits? Are you ready to commit? Yes, commit!!! It will take commitment to build a customer base or build a business. You must first make up your mind that you are willing to commit to your dreams…whatever they may be.
The three magic words in networking are “leverage your time”. If you are in network marketing, it is the only industry where the average person can leverage their time through other people’s efforts. If you own your own business or you work for someone else, you still need new clients, customers or members. Bottom line is you will need new people. Most of us work for someone else but are not willing to work for ourselves. However, if you will commit to finding something you enjoy, find something you can get passionate about and work towards your dreams and goals, in the end it will be well worth it.
Zig Zigler said, “You can get anything you want out of life if you just help enough people get what they want.” Said another way, if you help enough people pay their bills, your bills will get paid. If you help solve other peoples’ problems, your problems may not seem so bad.
Life is short! Have you ever thought, “Where did all the years go?” So, commit today that you will start to think outside the box. Write down a few goals you would like to accomplish this year 2010 and start on a path to achieving them. Don’t neglect your job and other obligations, but take the time to “Find your passion, you’ll be glad you did!”

How to Edify Your Rep & Don’t Try to Explain It to Your Spouse
Introduce your guest to a TOP leader (hopefully, someone you are working with). Make sure you edify (build up) them in front of your guest. EX: “Mike, this is Carl Randolph, one of the Top leaders in our business. He has helped so many people make money and he is working with me directly, so we will all be working together.” (Assume your guest is already in.) The leader should edify you back to the guest. I call it “full loop edification” because it should come back to you.
If the guest’s spouse is not there with them, suggest they not try to go home and explain the business to them. Have a 3rd party tool explain the business. Try this at your next business meeting and see if you get better results using this technique.

People Are Looking for Leaders
When most people join a business, they don’t know where to start or what to do. That is why leadership is very important to new people. If you bring one person into your business, you are now a leader. Yes, you are a leader, because that person is depending on your help for them to accomplish their dreams and goals.
If you feel you are not a leader, that is OK because you can learn how to become one. One of the quickest ways to become a leader is to learn from existing leaders. However, the best way to learn how to become a leader is to start a reading program. Start to read PMA (Positive Mental Attitude) and leadership books, listen to CDs, look at DVDs and attend leadership seminars.

Use OLD and NEW School Techniques
After many years experience of seeing and doing everything you could imagine, I still have a passion for helping other people and I don’t mind working, but I’d rather work smart than hard.
I did what I was told to do and I did make some money, but never like the BIG leaders. I followed the system:
- make list of family and friends
- the 3 foot rule
- meetings and presentations
- duplication
- books, tapes and functions
- edify everybody
- leads and auto responder
- cold calling (some freeze calls)
We call that Old School.
I’m aware that there is a new trend of marketing online and I’m taking full advantage of it. I call that the New school. I believe in using both Old school and New school techniques. I don’t want to limit myself to only marketing online, because you will never know who is standing in front of you in line somewhere. I personally know a lot of people who’ve made 7 figures and have never placed an ad or prospected online. I’m not putting down anyone that doesn’t cold contact or use the 3 foot rule. Why would you leave money sitting on the table?
I totally understand what all the online marketers are talking about. I have made thousands of cold contacts using the 3 foot rule for many years. There’s a wave of new school thinking and I’m also a part of that new trend; however, in my opinion, if you only focus on online sponsoring, you may miss the next biggest leader in your organization that was standing right in front of you at the store yesterday. But if you are only thinking about online marketing, you would not say a word. As a matter of fact, because you are already utilizing the new school techniques, it makes it easier to contact him because you don’t have the pressure of needing him. You are actually more relaxed when you talk to him…plus, you do not know who they know. Every person you meet could potentially lead you to hundreds, maybe thousands of others. 
We are about helping people, so if you’re standing there, just think…”I could help this person with some sort of pain that he/she might have in their lives right now”…but you will never know if you don’t say something…you will never know.
Get a piece of paper and pen out and let me give you the magic word to say when you see someone you’d like to talk to. First, get eye contact and give a little smile. If they smile back…okay, get ready! Now get your pen ready to write this down…Come on!!!…Get ready !!!…And then say “hello”…Yes, just say hello. That will start the conversation and I am confident you will do just great.
So, be smart and utilize both, old school and new school marketing. Why leave money on the table or a chance to help somebody else. You can win! You can do it! Set a goal for your business and get focused on that goal. Start each day with your goal in mind and go for it! As the Nike commercial said, “Just Do It!”

Get to Know the Top Leaders in Your Industry
Most, but not all, top leaders are approachable and will talk with you. Whenever you are in a meeting or at a function, make sure you meet the top leaders in your business. Walk up and say something like this, “Hello, my name is Bob Johnson from Dallas and I’m part of the Express Team.” If they are not in your upline*, they may not be as friendly as leaders that are in your upline.
The reason for this is because some business comp plans do not compensate leaders for reps that are not in their downline*, so there’s not vested interest. On the other hand,
the ones who override reps will want to know you because your success is tied directly to their success. Keep this is mind…It’s your business so it’s on you to get the information you need to create a successful business. Having videos and pictures with them will associate you with knowing them. Basically, it’s like….Wow!!!…He knows John Pace, the number one money earner in the company!!! This could put you in a place of power with your new prospects (even if you’re brand new). It can place a perspective in your new folks that you have the inside scoop.
Well, how do you do that? First, make up in your mind that they are just people and they are just like you, but they’vebeen in business longer. Second, if you havea friend or an upline at the meeting, have them introduce you. They will be able to edify you (article coming soon on edification). Edification is one of the most powerful techniques in MLM to help you reach the top. Third, have a quick statement ready. An example would be, “Hello, my name is Bob Johnson from Dallas and I’m part of the Express Team. I’m pretty new to the team and I was told you were the man/woman I needed to meet. Would you mind taking a picture with me (wife)?” Most of them will say, sure. That picture will add credibility to you to your new members. Also, do this for your new team members. When you are telling your story, tell people you know the #1 money earner and show them the picture. You can do this before you do a one-on-one to add credibility to you.

How to Maximize Your Comp Plan
As I talk to people, I’m amazed at how many people don’t understand their company’s comp plan. Whether it’s a unilevel, binary, matrix, or break away plan, you must take some time to learn how your comp plan works and how you can maximize your pay. Once you understand how your comp plan works, you will know where you need to spend your time.
This is totally just an example to make my point. Let’s say your comp plan pays out $100 for each new rep you personally sponsor (That means you personally brought them into the business yourself…level 1.) However, you make $50 for each personal they sponsor (level 2) and $25 for each person they sponsor (level 3). So that’s three levels deep. The comp plan also pays out monthly residuals. $10 for level 1, $5 for level 2 and $2 for level 3. Let’s say you personally know 12 people that want to become new reps with you.
Option 1- You personally sponsor all 12 and you will make $1,200 plus $120 residual each month.
Option 2- You personally sponsor 6 and place the other 6, one each, under each one of the ones you personally sponsored. You will make $600 plus $10×6 reps(1st level) and $5×6 reps(2nd level) for a total of $90 residual each month.
Option 3 – You sponsor 3 personally and place 3 (one each) under those three, then place 3 others (one each) under those other 3. Now you make $300 plus $10×3 reps(1st level) and $5×3 reps(2nd level) and $2×3 reps(3rd level) for a total of $51 residual each month.

Looking at the three options, which one would benefit you the most? Just think over the next few years if you had thousands of people in your organization! Now multiply your residual by thousands each month. How you maximize your comp plan could be the difference of thousands of dollars each month in your pocket.
Hopefully, this short article made some sense to you. As you look at your comp plan, break it down and see where the long term money is. Get with your upline and have them teach you how to maximize your comp plan. In the long run, you’ll be glad you did!
